LAWRENCEVILLE - At Bay Creek Park, there will soon be another angle to watch the kids play football.
Commissioners have approved a contract to construct a press box at the Grayson-area park.
"We're happy to leverage county dollars in partnership with these youth sports organizations to provide needed facilities in our parks," District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau said. "The Grayson Athletic Association continues to raise the bar for youth athletics in the greater Grayson area, and I personally appreciate their efforts."
As is the arrangement with other local youth sports leagues, the county will pay $50,000 of the $117,000 cost for the press box. The remainder comes from the association, which will also be responsible for any cost over-runs.
Bay Creek Park, which opened in 2004 on Ozora Road, is home to the county's first handicapped-accessible fall field and playground. In addition to the football field, the 154-acre park features seven baseball/softball fields, two playgrounds and a trail.
Last week, the county also approved an agreement with the Collins Hill Athletic Association to build a press box at Rock Spring Park, which is under construction.
