NORCROSS - A 14-year-old Norcross girl told police she awoke Thursday morning to an Asian man rubbing her in bed, tugging at her clothes.
So she screamed - loudly, according to police.
The girl's stepfather woke up, gave chase and tackled the man outside their Graves Road apartment, holding him at bay until authorities arrived, according to a police report.
In a few minutes the man, identified as 23-year-old Chang Bae Son, of Norcross, was in police custody. Charged with burglary and child molestation, Son remains in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
The alleged attack happened just before 6 a.m. Thursday.
Son, who lives in the same apartment complex, told police he spent the night drinking with a buddy. He claimed he entered the wrong apartment by mistake, then darted out when he heard screaming, the report said.
A responding officer noted that Son initially claimed he had drunk eight shots during the night, but later switched his story to say he'd consumed "three entire bottles of vodka," the report said. Son was not wearing shoes at the time of his arrest, the report said.
The girl was not injured in the alleged attack. Son suffered scrapes and cuts on his face when the girl's stepfather planted him face-first in the parking lot, the report said.
Gwinnett police spokesman Officer David Schiralli was unsure how the suspect allegedly entered the girl's apartment. According to an arrest warrant, Son did not force his way in the residence.
He lives in a neighboring building, the report said.
