SNELLVILLE - A 29-year-old Snellville man died Wednesday when a driver turned her car into the path of his motorcycle, police said.
Police identified the motorcyclist as Michael Donnell Barnett. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, which occurred about 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Centerville Rosebud Road and Lenna Drive. Barnett was ejected from his motorcycle and died at the scene, police said. Police said the vehicle's driver, Bessie Joyce Johnson, 68, of Snellville, could face misdemeanor charges of failure to yield while turning left or homicide by vehicle. Charges against her are pending while an investigation is under way, said Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman. A preliminary investigation shows Johnson was turning left in her 2002 Chevrolet Impala from Centerville Rosebud Road onto Lenna Drive. She turned into the path of Barnett, who was westbound on a 2008 Suzuki 1300 on Centerville Rosebud Road, said Spellman. Johnson complained of chest pains at the scene and was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center. Two other passengers in the vehicle - both young girls - were not injured, Spellman said. Police don't believe drugs or alcohol played a part in the crash. All three occupants of the Impala wore seat belts, Spellman said.More like this story
