SNELLVILLE - Brookwood knew it would enter the Class AAAAA state baseball playoffs as the top-ranked team in Georgia.
However, when the Broncos begin the postseason against Alpharetta this afternoon at the Dave Hunter Complex, they will also carry a No. 1 national ranking - in at least one major poll, anyway. Brookwood (24-1) jumped two places to the top of the most recent USA Today Super 25 rankings released earlier this week. It is the third national poll the Broncos appear in, and they are in the top 10 in each. Brookwood is No. 4 in the last Easton Sports/Collegiate Baseball rankings released April 29. However, they could move up when the next poll is released Tuesday as No. 2 Sarasota (Fla.) and No. 3 Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas each lost this past week. The Broncos also just cracked the top 10 in the Baseball Coaches Association/Baseball America poll at No. 10 and are the only team from Georgia ranked in this week's poll. Cobb County-based Harrison joins Brookwood in the USA Today and Easton polls at No. 9 and No. 16 respectively.More like this story
