Motorcyclist injured in head-on crash

BUFORD - A 54-year-old Buford man is expected to survive a head-on collision Sunday between his motorcycle and a Camaro.

James Andrews was hospitalized after he collided with a car that swerved into his lane on South Bogan Road in Buford, according to a police report. A hospital spokesperson said Andrews remained in fair condition Tuesday.

According to the report, Orlando Miguez, 25, of Buford, lost control of his 2001 Chevrolet Camaro and crossed the center line along a bend in the road near Quail Creek Drive. Miguez collided with the southbound motorcyclist, who rode a 2006 Honda, causing him extensive injuries, the report said.

Witnesses told police Miguez attempted to flee the scene with a family member who had arrived in a separate vehicle. When police approached Miguez, he was in the passenger's seat of his brother's truck, which was blocked by a witness' vehicle, the report said.

Miguez admitted to having drunk four shots of vodka at a bar off Pleasantdale Road, but he maintained he hadn't had a drink for several hours, the report says. Police found an empty beer bottle outside the car and several unopened bottles of beer and liquor inside the vehicle.

Miguez complained of a headache and was also transported to the hospital, where he consented to a blood alcohol test, according to the report. Jail records show Miguez had not been arrested late Tuesday.
