Eagles to host signing ceremony

Eight Collins Hill senior athletes who will compete at the college level will be honored Thursday with a ceremony at the high school. The event is at 2:45 p.m. in the theater.

The group includes basketball players Nikki Urbizo (Columbus State), Lauren Pace (Limestone College) and Erin Gray (North Greenville) and softball players Kim Mason (Mississippi College), Kellie Edmondson (Piedmont College) and Suzannah Kutney (LaGrange). Cheerleaders Jessica Ashcraft (Valdosta State) and Kara Ramos (Kennesaw State) also will be honored at the ceremony.

Stars' Meier picks Birmingham Southern baseball

Providence Christian senior Jesse Meier has accepted an offer to play baseball for Birmingham Southern.

Meier is hitting .353 with two home runs and 15 RBIs this season. As a pitcher, he is 5-2 with a 3.07 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 292/3 innings.

White signs with Ottawa soccer

Mill Creek grad Morgan White, a two-year starter at Young Harris College after high school, has signed a soccer scholarship with Ottawa University (Kan.). She is the daughter of Megan and Joe White.

White helped Young Harris to the national championship in 2006.

North's Gabree signs with Houghton soccer

North Gwinnett grad Nicole Gabree, who played last season at Mars Hill College (N.C.), has signed a letter of intent with Houghton College (N.Y.). She is the daughter of Joe and Unas Gabree.

Gabree played sparingly in her season at Mars Hill because of injury.

All-region 8-AAAAA tennis team announced

Thomas Cook of Parkview and Courtney McLane of Brookwood were selected as the players of the year on the All-Region 8-AAAAA tennis team, which was released Monday by the region's coaches.

The doubles teams of the year were Chris Eastwood and Jonathan Surls of Brookwood in boys and Hailey Denson and Nicole Hernandez in girls. Pam Autrey of Central Gwinnett was boys coach of the year and Meadowcreek's Shawn Merchant was girls coach of the year.

The all-region boys singles selections were Grayson's Grant Garner and Brookwood's Jordan Wright and Devin Flynn, while the girls all-region picks were Berkmar's Lauren Maness, Parkview's Megan Nelms and Brookwood's Dana Guentert.

The all-region doubles teams were Grayson's Eddy Bowie and Stephen Reagin and Tyler Rutland and Seth Webster in boys, and Parkview's Christina Holt and Rebecca Streich and Grayson's Amanda Craigt and Catherine Williams in girls.
