Summer term registration opens for high schoolers

LAWRENCEVILLE - In a few weeks, students will have just more than two months off for summer - unless they want to earn academic credit to get ahead or to make up for failing a class.

High school summer school begins June 9, but registration for face-to-face classes offered at Dacula, Duluth and Parkview high schools can be completed online at www.gwinnettk12online.net now until June 6.

Each single-semester course costs $205 for Gwinnett County residents, and the fee can be paid online with a credit or debit card. For those who wish to pay with cash or a money order, in-person registration will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 7 at Duluth High School, 3737 Brock Road, Duluth.

High school students also have the option of taking summer school courses through the Gwinnett County Online Campus. However, students can take no more than two courses during the summer, according to school district officials. Registration for online classes, which cost $300 per semester course, ends June 3.

Rising ninth-grade students who would like to free up some time freshman year for electives can sign up to take Introduction to Health and Introduction to Lifetime Fitness.

The school district also offers summer school to elementary and middle school students on academic contracts. Parents of children who will be recommended for the summer session will be notified by the end of the school year. The free classes run from June 26 to July 17.
