Aminu and Thompkins selected as All-Americans

Two boys basketball players from Gwinnett County are on the Parade All-America team, with Al-Farouq Aminu of Norcross picked for the first team and Wesleyan's Howard Thompkins selected for the third team.

Aminu and Thompkins each led their schools to a state championship. Norcross won its third consecutive Class AAAAA title and Wesleyan won its first championship in Class AA.

Georgia Tech's Gani Lawal, Aminu's former teammate at Norcross, was a second-team Parade All-America pick in 2007.

Aminu, who has signed with Wake Forest, averaged 22.5 points and 11.2 rebounds this season. Georgia signee Thompkins averaged 28.4 points and 10.7 rebounds.

Four other players from Georgia made the Parade All-America squad. South Atlanta's Derrick Favors, who is just a junior, made the second team, while Dunwoody's Chris Singleton joined Thompkins on the third team. DeJuan Jones of Wheeler and Tony Woods of Rome were picked for the fourth team.

Woods will play with Aminu at Wake Forest next season. Singleton signed with Florida State and Jones with Miami.

This is the 52nd year that Parade, a Sunday magazine supplement, has named an All-America team.
