LAWRENCEVILLE - A 19-year-old man was arrested Thursday and charged with allegedly shooting and killing an acquaintance after they argued over a debt in a parking lot off Hurricane Shoals Road, police said.
Brandon Mullins of Lawrenceville was arrested without incident late Thursday night. He's charged with killing 27-year-old Rafael M. Watson, Lawrenceville police Capt. Greg Vaughn said. Mullins is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, he said. He awaits an initial hearing in the Gwinnett County Jail. Investigators said the two men, who are thought to be acquaintances, argued over money that was owed to the victim in the parking lot of the Lawrenceville Trading Post about 3 p.m. Mullins allegedly shot Watson - also of Lawrenceville - twice. Watson, who was allegedly shot in his car, managed to drive a short distance from the scene, but his car later collided with a utility truck while heading west on Hurricane Shoals Road. He later died at Gwinnett Medical Center. Vaughn said Mullins was arrested based on interviews with several eyewitnesses who were at a nearby Citgo gas station when the shooting occurred. The shooting ensnared afternoon rush-hour traffic, as cars were rerouted by police to alternate routes.More like this story
