The '97 Grayson Rams, a 10-and-under travel softball team, won the ISA Freezer Burn tournament on March 16 in Conyers.
The Rams went 4-1 on their way to the Championship. Team members are: Carley Batchelor, Kory Best, Vanessa Bischoff, Emily Boothe, Jordyn Carr, Bailey Hanson, Remington Hasty, Caroline Sandhagen, Stephanie Snyder, Jennifer Spangler, Sydney Stevens and Taylor Wise. The team is coached by Greg Hasty, Robbie Sandhagen, Mark Stevens and Bill Batchelor. BASEBALL Wolves win Blast Off The Buford Wolves 14U travel baseball team won the West Forsyth Blast Off Tournament. The Wolves won the championship with a 9-8 victory over the Roswell Hornetts. Buford finished the tournament 5-0 and outscored its opponents 60-12. Team members are: Kyler Berrett, Spencer Lovelady, Troy Herterick, Zach Nitzel, Nic Dlugasch, Clay Gant, Avery Labuz, Sam Clay and. Chase Hulsey. The team is coached by Chris Gant. SWIMMING Blue Dolphins take second at championships The J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA Blue Dolphins took second place at the Metro Atlanta YMCA Championships on Feb. 23. Team members are: Kathleen Bradbury, Virginia Bradbury, Julianna Brieske, Lucas Brieske, Sarah Bruns, Scott Donaghy, Lauren Duncan, Anna Gehle, Hope Gehle, Kayla Harrison, Madeleine Hubbard, Brentnol John, Nicole Johnson, Robert Johnson, Arjuna Karikaran, Kallista Knight, Jordan Komery, Miruna Luca, Amy Marker, Courtney Marker, Sarah Marker, Conor Martin, Samantha Matthews, Tyler Mauro, Jared Miller, Meghan Miller, Jacob Oertley, Natalee Ondish, Amelia Plumer, Reese Plumer, Lindsay Saul, Jada Scree, Jordan Scree, Kajal Shah, Lucas Sims, Emily Thompson, Addie Tito, Emily Trettel, Andrei Vlad, Teo Vlad, Claire Weatherly, Emma Weatherly and Madison Wydock. BASKETBALL Local teams win all-star tournament Basketball players from youth athletic associations throughout Gwinnett competed in the Gwinnett County Recreation All-Star basketball tournament on March 1 at Lucky Shoals Park. The following are each age group team champions and players: North Gwinnett Athletic Association won the 7-8 girls division. Team members are: Haley Short, Addison Cameron, Alexis Gilenson, Jordan McGowen, Angela Raez, Gabby Teran, Grace Rigsbee, Ryann Shumeyko and Esmeralod Valentine. North Gwinnett Athletic Association won the 7-8 boys division. Team members are: Ethan Smith, Ryan Kerr, Ryan Watson, Khalil Anderson, Juwan Jones, Adrian Martin, Cooper Lewis, Nathan Haines and J.P. McGuire. North Gwinnett Athletic Association won the 9-10 girls division. Team members are: Nicole Levitz, Kallie Black, Claire Willingham, Camille Anderson, Marisa Bowman, Christina Tipton, Kylee Smith, Aaliyah Milord Dacula Athletic Association won the 9-10 boys division. Team members are: Dylan Singleton, Cory Johnson, Wright Patterson, Luke Stevenson, Logan Macintrye, Jalen Virgil, Nick Hayes, Joey Mazzio, Mathew Stringer and Jack Utley. North Gwinnett Athletic Association won the 11-12 girls division. Team members are: Mahrie Bowman, Cymphonie Buford, Kenisha Wilborn, Lauren Brown, Belinda Jacobsen, Amy Adame, Amy Zowada, Maddie Conkel, Kendall McKinney and Lauren Deguibert. Dacula Athletic Association won the 11-12 boys division. Team members are: Alex Compton, Sha Auguste, Deshon Harris, Bryce McCloud, Daveon Moselen, Oscar Valdes, Jeremiah Siska, B.J. Clay and Dextor Armour. Mill Creek Athletic Association won the 13-18 girls division. Team members are: Lizzie Humphreys, Kelsey Mowery, Rachael Humphreys, Andie Tuggle, Alexis Messinger, Casey Mintz, Meagan Gregory, Katie Lindsey, Meagan Jordan and Tiffany Mitchell. North Gwinnett Athletic Association won the 13-18 boys division. Team members are: Matt DeWilde, Ryan Copeland, Brandon Hayman, Avery Balsavage, Eddie Denar, Chad Scott, Travis Scoggins, Darryl Hosten and Reed Tickle. The Costello Team from Bunten Park won the 15-18 boys division.
