Navy Seaman Trenton P. Mapes, son of Patricia R. and Adam J. Mapes of Buford, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Mapes received training that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety with an emphasis on physical fitness.
Mapes is 2006 graduate of Mill Creek High School in Buford.
Army Pvt. Trevor A. Gooch, son of Davis Gooch of Lilburn, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. During nine weeks of training, Gooch studied the Army mission, history, tradition, core values and physical fitness. He received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare, bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
