WINDER - Residents living around Chandler Road near Auburn might have to contend with an impounded car lot.
Robbie Hern is asking the board to rezone 7.5 acres at 446 Chandler Road from agricultural classification to light industrial/commercial for the purpose of creating a storage/impound yard for confiscated vehicles. The property is bordered on three sides by residential homes with heavy woods on a fourth. Staff recommendations require the business be 200 feet from a residence and be enclosed by an 8-foot tall opaque fence or wall. Also near Auburn, Travis Pierce is requesting a special-use permit on his 1.4 acres at 670 Enterprise Drive to allow the warehouse to be converted into a precast stone manufacturing facility. The property is surrounded on all sides by several industrial warehouse businesses. In another request near Auburn, Michael and Jason Wakeman request a rezoning of 5.21 acres from agricultural classification to residential. The pair intend to subdivide the property into four residential lots. Cedar Ridge and Oxford Ridge subdivisions surround the acreage. Barrow County's Planning Commission recommends approval of all requests. SideBar: If you go · What: Barrow County Board of Commissioners meeting · When: 7 p.m. Tuesday · Where: 233 E.
