DULUTH - A step show planned for the World Congress Center this weekend will instead be held at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
The seventh Annual All Alumni Step Show for Delta Sigma Theta is expected to bring about 3,500 people to Duluth on Saturday. The sorority has also moved its debutante ball, planned for March 30, to the Gwinnett Center's grand ballroom. Both had been set for the Georgia World Congress Center, but damage sustained in last week's devastating tornado in Atlanta has caused the shuffling of many major events. Cheryl Ann Gee, director of sales and marketing for the Duluth venue, said the county, along with other locations, will also host games in a volleyball tournament scheduled for this weekend. In the coming months, the Gwinnett Center could host other events displaced by the damage. "It's very unfortunate, but we're glad we'll be able to accommodate them," she said. "Hopefully we'll be able to give them good hospitality." The impact on local hotels is not clear. "I'm sure if our hotels have availability, they would be willing to help," Gee said.More like this story
