Grayson makes appointments

GRAYSON - New appointments and several reappointments for various city boards were approved here Monday night by the Grayson City Council.

"We appreciate everyone who is serving on a board because they do outstanding work," said Mayor Jim Hinkle. "And we want to welcome the new people we appointed tonight."

The council reappointed Councilwoman Tammy Shumate to serve as mayor pro-tem.

For the Planning and Zoning Commission, James Gillespie was appointed to succeed Linda Turner, and David Elrod was reappointed with terms to run from April 1 to March 31, 2010.

The council appointed Mary Jeannette Weed to succeed David Mudd on the Board of Appeals, while Greg Shumate and Jerry Gwin both were reappointed with terms to run April 1 to March 31, 2011.

Jim Moff was reappointed Code Enforcement Officer (April 1 to March 31, 2009), while Steve Starling was renamed City Historian (April 1 to March 31, 2009).

Barbara Hinkle will succeed herself as Director of the Arts & History Center (April 1 to March 31, 2009, as will Angela Wirt as Assistant Center Director (April 1 to March 31, 2009.

Melody Mello and Michael Sutton were reappointed to the Code Enforcement Board (April 1 to March 31, 2011), while Leonard Smith was newly appointed as alternate to the board (April 1 to March 31, 2009).

In other business, the council approved a grant application to the Land and Water Conservation Fund. This will be a 50-50 matching grant, according to City Planner Steve Sappington, for continuing work on Grayson City Park. The grant will fall somewhere between $25,000 and $100,000.
