Donaldson Grier Woody, Sr., born October 3, 1924 in Charleston, WV. At an early age his family moved to Charleston, SC where he grew up. Preceded in death by his sons, Ronald Bailey, Richard Zimmerman, and grandson, Brian Scott Phillips, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy D. Woody and six of his eight children, Don Woody, Jr., Grace W. Baker, Candy W. Walker, Skippy Woody, Clinton Woody, Roxie Phillips; sister, Ruth Lidquist. Also survived by his 20 grandchildren, Rhonda, Kevin, Shayne, Danielle, Tinamarie, Dawn, Skipper, Christopher, Michael, Lynn, Drew, Edwin, Michelle, Will, Malaika, Jodice, Taivyn, Cuaid, Jackie, Tina. His 12 great grandchildren, Miranda, David, Matteo, Austin, Philip, Elise, Hannah, Katlyn, Trevor, Kaitlyn, Ethan and Brielle. Grier enlisted in the Army at the age of 19 and served in WWII where he was wounded in action at the Battle of the Bulge, earning a Purple Heart and Silver Star and various other awards of honor. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He attended college at Hampton Sydney College earning his B.A. Then he attended Union Seminary where he earned his B.D. He also earned a Masters of Theology at Louisville Presbyterian Seminary. A Bachelors of Science degree from Georgia State College, a Masters of Early Childhood Education from the University of Georgia. He was an active minister for 6 years, he was a high school teacher for several years, he was a director of early childhood daycare education for several years, he worked for the Department of Labor, as a veterans placement officer. He also worked part time with Dial American Marketing in sales. He retired at age 62 and resided in Norcross with his wife for 20 years. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at McKendree United Methodist Church, 1570 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd., Lawrenceville, GA at 3:00 pm.
