WINDER - Barrow County students and teachers will pay more money for school meals next fall. The board of education voted Tuesday to raise those prices for the first time since 2000-01, said Lisa Leighton, spokeswoman for the board.
Barrow County school breakfast prices will go up from 75 cents to $1 in the elementary schools and to $1.25 in the middle and high schools. Adult breakfast costs will double, from $1 to $2. Elementary school lunch prices will increase from $1 to $1.25, in middle schools from $1.25 to $1.50 and from $1.50 to $1.75 in both high schools. Adults will pay $3 for lunch, up from the current $2. In other business, the board tabled for 30 days a measure to add an abstinence education class to the sixth-grade health component. Barrow County offers abstinence education to seventh,-eighth-and ninth-graders. Barrow County's sex education committee voted 14-1 on Feb. 12 to implement the new program.More like this story
