Barrow teacher job fair attracts 200 applicants

WINDER - Barrow County schools should have plenty of teachers next fall.

Saturday's teacher job fair attracted about 200 qualified applicants to the school system, said Lisa Leighton, spokeswoman for Barrow County Schools.

Teachers came mostly from Gwinnett and Walton counties, she said, as well as several applicants from Jackson and Oconee counties.

"We had about eight special-ed teachers apply and lots of math and sciences," Leighton said. "We usually have more elementary teacher candidates, but this year it was varied across a broad spectrum of subjects and grade levels."

Officials with the Barrow County school system kicked off its annual recruiting campaign Thursday at the Athens Classic Center. Several more recruiting trips are planned, Leighton said.
