Prep roundup: South Gwinnett defeats defending state champion Walton

SNELLVILLE - South Gwinnett's baseball team beat defending state champion Walton 6-3 on Friday.

Kenny Sanderson was 3-for-3 with a run and Lance Whatley was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Brett Teschner went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Nick Blount was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for South. Spencer Varney and Adam Finkenhoefer each had an RBI and a run.

Sean Handlan pitched five innings and gave up one earned run and struck out eight. Finkenhoefer threw two innings and got the win for the Comets (1-0).

BASEBALL

Grayson 10, South Cobb 2

AUSTELL - Chase Fortner threw five innings and struck out three batters to help Grayson beat South Cobb 10-2 on Friday.

Behind the plate, Fortner was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Dereck Lark was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Matt Milligan was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Rams (1-1).

Parkview 7, McEachern 1

POWDER SPRINGS - Brandon Jacobs was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a two-run home run to help Parkview beat McEachern 7-1 on Friday.

Jonathan Parker got the win after pitching 42/3 innings. Parker gave up two hits and one earned run, while striking out two for Parkview.

Kenny Bellevance threw 1/3 inning and gave up no hits with a strikeout and a walk. Bellevance was also 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and Beau Esmonde went 2-for-3 for Parkview.

Everyone in the Parkview lineup had a hit on the night.

Central 6, Forsyth Central 1

SNELLVILLE - Jake Spear registered the win after pitching a complete game and striking out six as Central Gwinnett (2-0) beat Forsyth Central 6-1 on Friday.

Matt Ricciardi was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Tyler Hampton went 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Central.

GAC 7, North Oconee 4

NORCROSS - Andrew Steckenrider pitched the last three innings and struck out seven to register the win for GAC as the Spartans beat North Oconee 7-4 on Friday.

Stephen Pepper went 2-for-3 with an RBI for GAC (1-1).

North Gwinnett 5,

Lowndes 0

SUWANEE - Wyatt Brown threw a no-hitter and struck out eight batters to help North Gwinnett shut out Lowndes 5-0 on Friday.

Christopher Hawkins hit a solo home run while, Ronnie Stewart and Neriel Morillo each had an RBI single. Nick Jones had an RBI single for North (2-0).

Peachtree Ridge 4,

Sprayberry 1

SUWANEE - Blake Snyder registered the win after pitching three innings and struck out three batters as Peachtree Ridge beat Sprayberry 4-1 on Friday.

Nate Chong got the save after pitching an inning and striking out two.

Jared Walsh went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a double and Kyle Taylor had a triple for Peachtree Ridge (2-0).

Thompson 11, Collins Hill 8

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Collins Hill fell 11-8 to Thompson from Birmingham, Ala., on Friday.

Michael Adams was 3-for-4 with a run and Tommy Yeo went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs.

Chris McGowan had a hit and two RBIs for Collins Hill. Grant Earls was the losing pitcher for Collins Hill, while Reed Buck pitched an inning in relief and gave up a run and struck out three.

Buford 20, Gainesville 9

GAINESVILLE - Jaytee Swanson was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a home run to help Buford take a 20-9 victory over Gainesville on Friday.

Cameron Crawford went 4-for-5 with seven RBIs and Josh Rundik was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Andy Plott was the winning pitcher for Buford (1-0).

Cartersville 3, Mill Creek 2

CARTERSVILLE - Mill Creek lost to Cartersville 3-2 in 10 innings on Friday.

Cody Flickner threw 70 pitches in four innings and gave up no runs for Mill Creek.

Tyler Akins pitched 1/3 of an inning and registered the loss.

Brian Holmes scored one run for Mill Creek.

Providence 10, M.L. King 2

LILBURN - Austin Barry got the win after he gave up three hits and struck out four batters in three innings for Providence as the Stars beat M.L. King 10-2 on Friday.

Jon Walker was 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs and Tommy Bonner was 2-for-2 with three RBIs for the night.

Chris Wages had two RBIs for Providence (1-1).

Killian Hill 8,

People's Baptist 0

LILBURN - Aaron Parks (2-0) registered the win after pitching seven innings, giving up a walk, three hits and striking out seven as Killian Hill shut out People's Baptist 8-0 on Friday.

Jeffery Lanier had a triple and Kyle Bailey, Paul Hudson and Austin Parks each had an RBI for Killian Hill (2-0). Jon Clute was 2-for-2 for the night.

GIRLS SOCCER

Shiloh 4, South Gwinnett 0

SNELLVILLE - Emma Crumpton had eight saves and registered the shutout in goal as Shiloh defeated South Gwinnett 4-0 on Friday.

Ariana Walsh scored two goals and had an assist, while Sherry Mujkanovic also scored a goal for Shiloh. Kelsey Floyd scored on a penalty kick for Shiloh.

Parkview 8, Berkmar 0

LILBURN - Parkview shut out Berkmar 8-0 on Friday.

Kim Spence finished the night with two goals and an assist, while Kansas Bayly and Morgan Mitchell each had a goal and an assist for the Panthers.

Caitlyn Dial, Maureen Buff, Ginny Levington and Morgan Kammer each scored a goal for Parkview (5-0).

Collins Hill 1, Dacula 0

DACULA - Sage DoVale got the shutout for Collins Hill as the Eagles took a 1-0 win over Dacula on Friday.

Kylie Donahue scored the winning goal on a penalty kick for Collins Hill (5-2).

North Gwinnett 8, GAC 1

NORCROSS - Halie Watts scored three goals to help North Gwinnett beat GAC 8-1 on Friday.

Danielle Au and Kaitlin Baker each scored two goals and had two assists. Kelly Penston had a goal and an assist and Abbi Edwards added an assist for North (4-1).

Buford 13, Hebron 0

BUFORD - Rachel Kaplan had three saves and registered the shutout as Buford beat Hebron 13-0 on Friday.

Katie Garth had four goals and an assist and Maria Petroni had three goals and five assists. Haley Holderfield contributed three goals and an assist and Catherine Roadcap had two goals and an assist. Natalya Jones also scored a goal for Buford (3-1-1).

Mill Creek 2, Habersham 0

HOSCHTON - Lauren Fugel and Hannah Hoffman each scored a goal for Mill Creek, as the Hawks shut out Habersham 2-0 on Friday.

Jacyln Baily had an assist for Mill Creek (3-3-1).

Wesleyan 4, Decatur 0

NORCROSS - Nina Niersma registered the shutout as Wesleyan beat Decatur 4-0 on Friday.

Chloe Kelly scored three goals and Jo Jo Prescott added a goal for Wesleyan. Paige Pickert had four assists for Wesleyan (4-2).

Meadowcreek 0

NORCROSS - Jamie Deal had two saves to register his fifth straight shutout as Brookwood took a 3-0 win over Meadowcreek on Friday.

John Yang scored two goals and Joey Deloney scored a goal and had an assist for Brookwood. Mark Cliff and Ryan Christopher each had an assist for the Broncos (4-2).

Parkview 2, Berkmar 0

LILBURN - Daniel Bullock registered the shutout in net as Parkview took a 2-0 win over Berkmar on Friday.

Jordan Stowe and Carlos Antunez each scored a goal for the Panthers (4-2).

DACULA - Collins Hill took a 3-1 win against Dacula on Friday.

Juan Giraldo scored a goal and had an assist for Collins Hill and Alejandro Duque and Nicky McKain each scored a goal. Alex Reyes and Jonathan Hazard both had an assist for the Eagles (6-1).

Jamie Gleeson scored Dacula's (2-1-1) lone goal and was assisted by Daniel Carrandia.

Central Gwinnett 2, Grayson 1

SNELLVILLE - Josh Aiken-Phillips had 12 saves to help Central Gwinnett beat Grayson 2-1 on Friday.

Ben Tayi scored both goals for Central (4-3).

Buford 11, Hebron 0

BUFORD - Tony Arroyo led Buford with six goals as the Wolves shut out Hebron 11-0 on Friday.

Gabino Alanis scored three goals and Cole Chandler had two goals for Buford. Daniel Villfuerte and Nick Smith combined for a shutout in net.

HOSCHTON - Mill Creek fell to Habersham Central 3-0 on Friday.

Wesleyan 4, Decatur 3

NORCROSS - Greg Mackenzie had a goal and an assist as Wesleyan beat Decatur 4-3 on Friday.

Chris Duvall scored a goal and had an assist, while Michael O'Hare and Spencer Brown each scored a goal for Wesleyan (3-1-1).

South Gwinnett 2, Shiloh 1

SNELLVILLE - South Gwinnett beat Shiloh 2-1 in overtime on Friday.

Tucker 1, Providence 0

TUCKER - Providence fell to Tucker 1-0 on Friday.

Providence's overall record is 0-1-2.

DACULA - Hebron fell to Towns County 3-2 on Friday.

Sarah Hedrick won at No. 1 singles and Kara McFarland won at No. 2 singles for Hebron.

DACULA - Hebron lost to Towns County 3-2 on Friday.

Evan Haas won at No. 2 singles, while Kyle Donatucci and Robert Hunt each won at No. 2 doubles for Hebron.

BOYS LACROSSE

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian was up 2-0 at the half but couldn't hold on and fell to Northview 8-3 on Friday.

Ryan Campbell had two goals and Christian Fretz had one goal. Justin White had an assist for GAC (1-3) and Shawn Kane had 18 saves in goal.

GOLF

Grayson beats Shiloh

GRAYSON - Grayson knocked off Shiloh 174-192 on Friday.

Tyler Bettress shot a 41 and Ben McEwen shot a 42 for Grayson. Drew Libowsky shot a 42 for Shiloh and Greg Boike shot a 46 for Shiloh.
