Storm causes several fires

LAWRENCEVILLE - Lightning strikes during a thunderstorm Friday evening caused several fires in the county, Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said.

A home on Hickory Nut Lane in Lawrenceville suffered moderate to heavy damage from a blaze caused by the lightning, Rutledge said. Firefighters were dispatched to the home at 10:48 p.m. and found flames coming from the roof at the center of the house when they arrived.

A Buford home suffered minor damage from an apparent lightning strike, Rutledge said. The incident, reported at 10:33 p.m., caused light smoke in the garage and attic.

Lightning also caused a woods fire on the 400 block of West Pike Street in Lawrenceville, Rutledge said. The fire was reported at 10:05 p.m., and no structures were damaged.

Another lightning fire was reported at 10:56 p.m. on the 2000 block of Fence Road in Dacula, but no damage was found, Rutledge said.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
