Norcross resident crowned Mrs. Georgia America
NORCROSS - Norcross resident Shauna Rowland was recently crowned the winner of the Mrs. Georgia America pageant.
The pageant was held June 22 at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center.
Rowland competed against contestants in interview, physical fitness and evening gown. She will represent the state Sept. 2 at the Mrs. America Pageant in Tucson, Ariz.
She is married to Dr. Nathan C. Rowland.
Applications due soon for leadership training program
LAWRENCEVILLE - The Gwinnett Neighborhood Leadership Institute is accepting applications until Monday for its upcoming community Leadership Training Program.
The program, which begins Aug. 23, provides training to Gwinnett County residents interested in learning effective leadership skills so they can take a more active role in community affairs.
Workshops are held one Saturday each month for eight consecutive months. Session topics include government affairs, crime prevention, health, education, economics, community growth and media relations.
There is a $500 program fee with scholarships available. A program schedule and applications can be downloaded at www.gnli.org.
Tax bills to be mailed by July 15
LAWRENCEVILLE - Property tax bills will be mailed by July 15, Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner Katherine Sherrington announced.
The bill will include payment coupons and reply envelops for installment payments. First installment amounts shown on tax bills must be paid by Sept. 15. Taxpayers may also pay the entire amount by this date.
The balance must be paid by the second installment date of Nov. 15. Installments not paid by the stated due dates will incur a 5 percent penalty. In addition, interest will begin to accrue on any unpaid amount at the rate of 1 percent per month beginning Nov. 16.
Tax payments may be made over the telephone using banking information on the Tax Commissioner's TaxTalk 24 line by calling 770-822-8800. Taxpayers may also pay by credit card or e-check over the Internet at www.GwinnettTaxCommissioner.com. Convenience fees will be applied for credit card transactions made over the Internet.
Customers may also pay in person at the main Property Tax Office at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville or at the following branch locations:

Dacula resident honored for sales performance
DACULA - Frito-Lay North America sales representative Carey Henderson of Dacula was honored recently as one of PepsiCo's top sales performers worldwide with induction into the PepsiCo President's Ring of Honor.
Henderson, who has been with Frito-Lay for three years, is among the less than one quarter of 1 percent of PepsiCo's 85,000-member global sales force who win this honor each year.
Frito-Lay North America is the $11 billion convenient foods business unit of PepsiCo, which is headquartered in Purchase, N.Y. In addition to Frito-Lay, PepsiCo business units include Pepsi-Cola, Quaker Foods, Gatorade and Tropicana.
Volunteers needed for annual walk
GRAYSON - The National Alliance on Mental Illness is looking for volunteers to participate in its annual Walk and Mental Health Awareness Day, scheduled for Sept. 13 at Tribble Mill Park.
A kick-off luncheon, free to all participants, will be held July 17.
