LAWRENCEVILLE - John Luke Walker, the Brookwood football player jailed since March on charges he molested a 14-year-old, is expected to seek bond today in Gwinnett County Superior Court.
Walker, 17, pleaded not guilty last week to charges of aggravated child molestation and false statements. He initially faced an additional count of rape. Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney David Fife said in a phone interview Wednesday he does not consent to Walker being free on bond until his trial, but said he has yet to speak with Walker's attorney, B.J. Bernstein, and could change his mind. Bernstein inexplicably withdrew a bond motion in April. The hearing is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Tom Davis' courtroom. Prosecutors say Walker molested the 14-year-old girl after a party on Feb. 17, causing her physical injury. The incident allegedly happened at a home on Fawnbrook Court in Lilburn, where police later found the girl unconscious. Walker was reportedly house-sitting for the home's owners, who were out of town. Georgia law states aggravated child molestation can apply to a victim under 16 years old who is injured in the act of intercourse. Walker has remained without bond in the Gwinnett County Jail - except for a short, court-approved reprieve to attend a family wedding - since he was pulled from the school cafeteria and arrested March 5.More like this story
