Ft. Yargo 'Junior Rangers' a hot ticket
Camp full for summer

WINDER - Looking for a healthy outlet for preteens this summer?

If you're looking to Ft. Yargo State Park's popular Junior Rangers Camp, you're looking a little too late.

The camp, which kicks off Monday, is totally booked for the season, a Ft. Yargo representative said this week. The four-day camp is the only of its kind this summer, she said.

Open to kids ages 8 to 12, the camp packs arts and crafts, nature hikes and activities stressing the importance of appreciating nature into a four-day span. The limit of 15 children have signed on at a cost of $60 per person.

But don't totally fret.

The park, which offers camping, hiking and fishing options smack dab between Atlanta and Athens, remains accessible for a small fee of $3, officials said.

A particular attraction is the 260-acre lake, replete with a swimming beach, fishing areas and boat ramps. Multiple campsites sit along the water's edge, and a network of hiking trails often cozy up to the water.

If your preference is riding over walking, you'll not be left wanting, either.

Mountain bikers "can test their endurance on 12 miles of trails with beautiful views," the park's Web site boasts.
