LAWRENCEVILLE - A man accused of slitting a jogger's throat in a Stone Mountain park last year is scheduled to face a jury trial next week.
Charles Martin Coats, 57, is charged with murder for allegedly killing 50-year-old William Scott Carr in January 2007 after the two men had a dispute. David Keeton, Assistant District Attorney, said jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday. Police said the defendant attacked Carr while he jogged through Yellow River Park with his dog. When Carr later died at Emory Eastside Hospital, prosecutors upgraded an aggravated assault charge against Coats to murder. Coats has remained at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond since the incident. Police said the two men had been involved in a past altercation before the deadly encounter.More like this story
