There are so many talented young dancers from Gwinnett going off to special summer study programs that one Art Beat column couldn't contain them. Here are more dancers who have auditioned and won places in prime summer programs called "summer intensives."
The Northeast Atlanta Ballet has young ballerinas going to study at prestigious companies. Katie Lamp'l will be going to the Nashville Ballet. Kristen Spring will spend her summer at Houston Ballet. Alexis Jones is headed for American Ballet Theatre. Genevieve Colangelo will be going to Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. Lindsey Blackburn will study at Joffrey Ballet in New York City.
Lauren McDonough travels to the Washington Ballet. Jenny Martin will be dancing at both the Boston Ballet and The Rock School. Rachael Jones will be dancing in China before her contract begins with the American Repertory Ballet. Aimee Plauche will be attending the Chicago Choreography project.
Another producer of budding young dancers is Susan Chambers School of Theatre Dance. This school has young dancers attending ballet and other types of dance intensives as well. Many of these dancers are also going to two or more companies. Kelsey Burrell will be attending Broadway Artists Alliance, Broadway Dance Theatre Workshop in Santa Fe, N.M., Atlanta Ballet Summer Intensive and the University of South Carolina Dance Conservatory.
Another Kelsey, last name Wildman, is also a multiple company student this summer, attending the Joffrey Ballet in New York City with full tuition and residency scholarship, Joffrey Ballet South, again with full tuition and residency scholarship, the Broadway Dance Theatre Workshop in Santa Fe, N.M., and the University of South Carolina Dance Conservatory.
Ellyn Bowen will be studying at Atlanta Ballet followed by the University of South Carolina Dance Conservatory. Emma Grace Cline will attend Tap Kids Rhythm Intensive in New York City plus the Atlanta Ballet.
Guys get in the action, too. Ryan Corbett received a full tuition scholarship and residency at the Joffrey Ballet in New York City. He'll follow that up with a stint at the North Carolina School of the Arts Summer Program.
Avery Eliot will be dancing at the Atlanta Ballet, and Kaila Fields will be high-kicking at the Radio City Rockette Summer Intensive in New York City followed by the University of South Carolina Dance Conservatory. Kiley Gipson will attend the Joffrey Ballet South Summer Intensive, the Broadway Dance Theatre Workshop in Santa Fe, N.M., and the Atlanta Ballet Summer Intensive.
Madison Morton also heads for the Broadway Dance Theatre Workshop, the Atlanta Ballet Summer Intensive, and the University of South Carolina Dance Conservatory. Ashley Pettit mixes it up a bit differently, also attending the Broadway Dance Theatre Workshop, but then she heads for Joffrey South and the University of North Carolina Summer Intensive. Sara Snow will also study at the Radio City Rockette Summer Intensive in New York City. Even the teachers at Susan Chambers' get into the summer intensive action. Teacher Mallory Baxley will be studying at Point Park Summer Program in Pittsburgh, Penn.
If there are others from our area attending summer intensives for dancers, please contact Art Beat so that we can give credit to your hard work and success.
