BUFORD - A Norcross-based manufacturer of specialty sporting goods and equipment is opening a new distribution center at the Hamilton Mill Business Center in Buford, company officials announced Monday.
Mizuno USA Inc. manufactures and distributes baseball, golf, softball, running, track and field, and volleyball equipment, apparel and footwear. The new 30,000-square-foot distribution center will handle the diamond sports (baseball and softball), volleyball and running products, according to a news release.
The company has moved its running footwear operations from the Norcross distribution center into the Buford location. The Diamond products will be moved by the end of June, and the volleyball products will transition in September, the news release states. Distribution for the company's golf division will remain at the Norcross location.
The Buford distribution center uses a new, semi-automated "picking module" that allows the company to fill orders more efficiently, the news release says.
"The marketplace is changing, and many retailers are requesting more frequent shipments in smaller quantities to be delivered immediately when they need them," Saadi Majzoub, Mizuno USA's vice president of supply chain, said in the news release. "This new Hamilton Mill Distribution Center is going to allow us to get product out the door faster, helping us meet the changing needs of our customers, and making Mizuno one of the industry leaders in service and delivery."
