James Merritt Staley, age 86, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2008, in Lawrenceville, GA after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was preceded in death by his parents, James H & Edna Merritt Staley. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Virginia Meek Staley, daughter & son-in-law, Kathy & Nick Williams of Lawrenceville, GA, son & daughter-in-law, Mike & Allyson Staley of Shelbyville, TN, brother & sister-in-law, Thomas A & Lou Staley of Apopka, FL, sister-in-law, Marjorie Lienhart of College Station, TX, grandchildren, Kelly Williams of Flowery Branch, GA, Kyle Williams & Fiancé Lauren Johnson of Monroe, GA, Heather Steinmetz of Sanford, FL, Cheryl Staley of Deltona, FL, Melissa Martinez & Daniel Staley of Beaumont, TX, and 3 Great Grandchildren, Madalyne, Jacob and Angelina. Mr. Staley was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many. Mr. Staley was born in Macon, GA on June 27, 1921. He grew up in Oviedo Florida and graduated from Oviedo High School. He attended South Georgia College. Mr. Staley was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He was a part owner member of C. R. Clonts and Associates Company of Oviedo. He retired from Nelson and Company of Oviedo. He was an avid golfer and hunter. Merritt was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Oviedo, where he was an active member of the church choir for 33 years. Mr. Staley lived in the Lawrenceville area for the last 5 years. The body will be transported to Oviedo, FL for Funeral Service and Interment on Tuesday. Tom M.
