LOGANVILLE - A 20-year-old Loganville man drowned Tuesday afternoon in a rock quarry off Claude Brewer Road in Loganville, an official said.
Eric Winston Hill, who was with several friends at the quarry, died after jumping off a 35- to 40-foot ledge into about 50 feet of water, said Walton County Sheriff's Capt. Chris Cannon. "He hit the water and never came back," said Cannon, adding that the quarry was a popular diving spot. Hill's body was recovered by divers late Wednesday morning. A preliminary autopsy report said Hill died from drowning. Divers on Tuesday searched for Hill's body into the evening, but had to call off the search due to poor visibility, authorities said. It took divers about 45 minutes Wednesday to locate his body. Cannon said it is unknown what caused Hill to drown, but speculated he might have panicked. "Obviously something happened," he said.More like this story
