Siblings earn awards for fiddling
SNELLVILLE - Two Snellville residents won top awards May 24 in the 1890s Days Jamboree Fiddlers Contest in Ringgold.
Emma DeJarnette won first place in the 10 and under age category. Her sister, Aerin, placed third in the 16 to 20 age category.
Fiddlers, guitarists and cloggers came from five states to participate in the contest, staged in the historic Ringgold Depot and sponsored by Ringgold Chrysler Dodge Jeep.
Teen wins national equestrian title
SUWANEE - Brittlan Wall, a North Gwinnett High student, won the Interscholastic Equestrian Association National Championship for the second consecutive year.
Wall is the first back-to-back winner in the IEA's history. She won several prizes, including a $16,000 scholarship, an English saddle, silver trays, horse blankets and saddle pads.
The championship was held in April in Springfield, Mass.
Greek council marks anniversary
LAWRENCEVILLE - The North Metro at Lawrenceville Pan-Hellenic Council celebrated its second anniversary with a soiree May 18 at Willies Restaurant and Bar.
The council was formed to further the efforts of Greek-letter organizations in improving the quality of life in the north metro Atlanta area. Member organizations promote community awareness and action through educational, economic and cultural service activities.
Participating Greek chapters include Rho Kappa Lambda Graduate Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Upsilon Alpha Omega Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Beta Lambda Lambda Graduate Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Gwinnett County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Sigma Omicron Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Tau Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Lawrenceville-Duluth Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
