DACULA - City Council members Thursday approved several variances and changes of zoning conditions for about 15.5 acres near the Hurricane Shoals Road, Old Peachtree Road and Nichols Road intersection.
Part of the land was zoned C-2 (Commercial) in 2006, with the intent of building a single-story retail project with outparcels.
Applicant Bentley Springs, LLC plans to build two-story professional office buildings in Dacula Commons, the proposed name of the development.
Broad Street improvements to begin
The rebuilding and resurfacing of Broad Street at Dacula High School will begin within the month, according to city administrator Jim Osborn. Allied Paving will be awarded the replacement project, and Local Assistance Road Program (LARP) funds will be used for the one-and-a-half inch thick resurfacing.
In other news, a Dacula Soccer Club 12- and 13-year-old boys youth soccer team was recognized by mayor Jimmy Wilbanks Thursday, for winning the 2008 President's Cup. The team is coached by Jimmy Carrion.
· The Dacula Planning and Zoning Board will meet June 30 to consider adding a new zoning designation to the city code. The new category will be R-TH, which will make provisions for zoning land for townhome development.
· A public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. June 11 in City Hall concerning the new millage rate. The next 2030 Comprehensive Plan meeting will take place in City Hall at 6:30 p.m. June 17.
