Wesleyan wins Directors Cup with record score

The title had been clinched for weeks, but Wesleyan was announced Thursday as the official winner of the Class AA Georgia Athletic Directors Association/Dodge Directors Cup, given to the state's top high school athletic program.

Wesleyan, ranked as Georgia's top 2007-08 athletic program recently by Sports Illustrated, won AA with an all-time record score of 1,100 points. The previous high was Marist's 1,090 points during the 2005-06 school year. The Wolves had the highest boys, girls and overall score in AA.

Brookwood ranked highest among Gwinnett's AAAAA programs, finishing as runner-up to Walton with 670 points - the Raiders won with 830. The Broncos did win the boys division, scoring the most points in boys sports.

Collins Hill (third with 600 points), Parkview (fourth, 590), Peachtree Ridge (sixth, 540), Mill Creek (eighth, 510) and Grayson (10th, 406.6) gave Gwinnett six of the top-10 schools in AAAAA.

Other local AAAAA schools who scored were as follows: North Gwinnett (17th), Norcross (25th), Duluth (39th), Berkmar (43rd), Central Gwinnett (45th), South Gwinnett (56th), Shiloh (58th) and Meadowcreek (69th).

Greater Atlanta Christian finished third in AA with 550 points, 350 behind runner-up Lovett. Buford was seventh with 380 points.

Providence was third in A with 470 points, only 20 behind runner-up Landmark Christian. Hebron finished 62nd.

In AAAA, Dacula was 11th (336.6) and Winder-Barrow was 48th. Apalachee was 32nd in AAA.
