STONE MOUNTAIN - A McDonald's fast food restaurant on U.S. Highway 78 may reopen today, a week after county health inspectors found raw sewage backing up into the store's basement, an official said.
The Gwinnett County Health Department received a complaint May 28 about the plumbing problem and, upon verification of an imminent health problem, shut down the restaurant at 5225 U.S. Highway 78, said Vernon Goins, the Health Department's spokesman.
The restaurant can reopen once public health officials verify the problem has been fixed, Goins said.
A phone call seeking comment from McDonald's corporate media relations department was not immediately returned Wednesday.
Records show the restaurant received a score of 81 out of 100 - or a B - on April 1, its latest routine health inspection. Its previous score was 96 (an A) on Oct. 17.
