Gladiators protect 18 players for next season

DULUTH - The ECHL released the protected lists for all 25 of its teams on Tuesday, including the Gwinnett Gladiators.

The protected list for the 2008-09 reserve system is comprised of players as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players' Association.

The Gladiators protected 18 players - Andy Brandt, Bryson Busniuk, Jeff Campbell, Lou Dickenson, Joe Grimaldi, Jim Jackson, Craig Kowalski, Ryan Mahrle, Jeff Mason, Scott Mifsud, Jamie Milam, Derek Nesbitt, Brad Schell, Jon Sitko, Dirk Southern, Dinos Stamoulis, Mike Vigilante and Matt York.

Teams are allowed to protect as many players as they wish, provided they meet certain guidelines.

Teams must submit their season-ending roster by 3 p.m. June 15. Season-ending rosters may include up to 20 players and cannot include any players who did not sign an ECHL contract in 2007-08.

From the season ending roster, the Gladiators may tender qualifying offers to only a maximum of eight players. That deadline is July 1.
