LAWRENCEVILLE - The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved the second phase of development of Bay Creek Park in Loganville.
Construction - which will begin in July and end next summer - will include the addition of a 20,000-square-foot lighted skate complex, four lighted tennis courts with shade structures, two lighted half-court basketball courts and a sand volleyball court, according to a news release.
An open space area for informal play, a 60-foot picnic pavilion with a grill, a playground, two restroom buildings and additional parking will also be added, along with trail connections to the existing portion of the park, the news release states.
"Bay Creek Park already is a great community gathering place for the greater Grayson area," said Mike Beaudreau, the county commissioner representing District 3. "These additional amenities will enhance the park's appeal even more."
The 153-acre park, which opened in 2005 off Ozora Road, already features the county's first special-needs ball field and playground, a football field with a lighted walking track, seven baseball and softball fields, a second playground and a 1-mile paved trail.
The $3.1 million project will be paid for through the 2005 special purpose local option sales tax program for parks and recreation, the news release states. Reliant Construction Inc. was awarded the construction contract.
