Emory to hold health, skin screenings
SNELLVILLE - Emory Eastside Medical Center will hold a community health screening from 8 to 10 a.m. Aug. 21 in Classroom 1 of the medical center's campus in Snellville.
The screenings include: fasting blood sugar ($3.80), cholesterol ($5), and total lipid profile - cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, and LDL, and cardiac risk factors - ($17.80). Participants must fast from 8 p.m. the evening before with no more than a sip of water to take any required medication. Free blood pressure checks and free stroke assessments and information are also available on the day of screening. No appointment is necessary. Participants must bring their physician's contact information. A Social Security number will need to be provided for identification purposes.
A skin cancer screening also will be held Aug. 21 in Classroom 2 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Short sleeve shirts are preferred and participants must be 18 years of age. Call 770-982-2358 to make an appointment.
New gym for women to open Sept. 1
SUWANEE - Elements, a new diet and fitness center for women, is expected to open its doors Sept. 1 at 1300 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., Suite 2203 in Suwanee.
The boutique-style club was originally designed by Ruby Martin, an award-winning interior designer, and will feature four distinct programs: diet coaching, yoga and pilates, personal and circuit training. The club will also exclusively feature European designed Smartcard equipment, which will record and track the progress of each member.
Connie Jeon, the club's owner, is a licensed physical therapist, registered/licensed dietitian, health/fitness instructor, trained yoga therapist, and a comprehensive trained Pilates practitioner. She is also certified in adult weight management.
