NORCROSS - A driver who triggered a three-car crash early Saturday morning on Interstate 85 died at the scene, police said.
Three other crash victims remain hospitalized in critical condition while another man is behind bars. Police said the driver of a 2005 Scion, who was not identified, caused the chain-reaction crash about 4:45 a.m. near the Beaver Ruin Road overpass in Norcross. That person died at the scene. The crash tangled most northbound lanes of I-85 for two hours. Exactly why it happened is still unclear, police said. Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli said the Scion driver struck a 2003 Ford Taurus from behind, then was hit by an oncoming 2007 Honda Accord. All three people in the Accord are listed in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center, Schiralli said. The driver of that car, Session Holt III, 38, of Clearwater, Fla., has been charged with DUI and following too closely, Schiralli said. "More charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues," Schiralli said. "This is still an active investigation." The three people in the Taurus were treated and released at the scene, he said.More like this story
