I concur in Jan Erb's letter to the editor opposing new offshore drilling for oil.
Solar and wind power in particular offer real alternatives to meet our energy needs. Even oil man T. Boone Pickens sees the future in alternative fuels (www.pickensplan.com). Solar and wind power are not only good for the environment, they are good for the economy as evidenced by the recent announcement that Suniva will open a plant in Norcross to manufacture a new generation of solar panels. To accelerate the growth in alternative energy, we need the Senate to pass an extension of the Production Tax Credits for renewable energy. The U.S. House passed an extension earlier this year despite all Georgia Republicans voting against it. It's time we stopped wasting our human energy and resources on empty promises such as "offshore drilling will lower gas prices." and invest in technologies and conservation measures that will have a real impact on energy costs and global warming and produce jobs for Georgians.More like this story
