$7.7 million in marijuana discovered

DULUTH - An anonymous tip led police to $7.7 million worth of marijuana inside a Duluth residence, authorities announced Friday.

The home's occupant, Viviano Aguilar, has been charged with drug trafficking, Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. David Schiralli said.

He remains in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond, records show.

"It is deemed a major bust for us," Schiralli said, adding that the record stands at more than $10 million.

Officers from the Gwinnett County Drug Task Force seized 1,718 pounds of the drug July 17 after following on an anonymous tip that a large quantity of marijuana was stored inside a home at 4042 Sugar Mill Drive Court in Duluth.

Its street value is believed to be $7,769,250, Schiralli said.

Aguilar was arrested at the scene without incident.
