LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man Wednesday in connection with a 2007 slaying in Buford, authorities said.
Joseph Hunter Hayes, 22, remains in the Gwinnett County Jail on murder charges in connection with the Sept. 1 death of Lloyd Lee Harrison III.
Hayes was initially arrested days after the alleged incident and charged with murder, according to his Marietta-based attorney John A. Steakley. A magistrate later bound over charges of voluntary manslaughter and burglary, he said.
He was freed on bond Sept. 23.
On July 2, a Gwinnett grand jury indicted Hayes on four charges, including murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and burglary.
According to the indictment, Hayes unlawfully entered Harrison's East Shadburn Avenue residence in Buford. There, he kicked and punched Harrison to death.
Though a Sheriff's Department news release said the county's fugitive task force was used to apprehend Hayes, Steakley said his client wears a GPS device that shows where he is at all times. He was taken into custody without incident, the release said.
Steakley maintains Hayes' innocence, but did not reveal a possible defense.
"We're working on that," he said.
A motion for bond will be filed soon, he said.
