Suwanee honors police chief for leading association

SUWANEE - Chief Mike Jones was honored by Suwanee Mayor Dave Williams and the City Council on Tuesday night.

Jones has been named president of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police by his peers. The Association is made up of more than 500 police chiefs throughout the state and is charged with leading the state where law enforcement matters are concerned, according to Jones.

Williams read a proclamation naming July 23, 2008, "Chief Mike Jones Day" in Suwanee. Visibly moved, Jones said he was humbled by the gesture.

Permit issued for car wash

Suwanee city officials granted a special-use permit to Mammoth Holdings on Tuesday, paving the way for construction of a car wash at 3121 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

The car wash, which will be located in the Suwanee Depot shopping center and in the heart of the Suwanee Gateway district, will conform to all city conditions regarding architectural and landscape requirements.

A representative from Ruby Tuesday opposed granting the permit. The restaurant giant owns a parcel of land in that center and was attempting to sell the land to Tidal Wave, another car wash company.

Millage rate set

Suwanee's 2008-2009 millage rate will remain at 5.77. The third legally required public hearing was held Tuesday night.
