Woman charged with vehicular homicide in Feb. crash

LAWRENCEVILLE - A woman who authorities say slammed her Ford Mustang into another vehicle in late February - killing one of her passengers - has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, jail records show.

Maegan Renee Zizelman, 19, was arrested Friday and charged with vehicular homicide, failure to maintain her lane and possession of alcohol by a minor, according to her booking sheet. All three charges are misdemeanors.

She was released from the Gwinnett jail the same day on $3,900 bond, records show.

Zizelman could not be reached for comment Monday.

The charges stem from a Feb. 28 head-on collision on McKendree Church Road, just north of Keswick Place Drive, in Lawrenceville. According to the accident report, Zizelman's 1993 Ford Mustang, heading northbound, crossed the center line for unknown reasons, striking a southbound 2001 Land Rover.

Chanda Leigh Wooden, the front-seat passenger in Zizelman's silver Mustang, died at the scene, according to Maj. Carl Sims of the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department. Her age is unknown.

Zizelman and her rear passenger - along with the driver of the Land Rover - were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment, authorities said.

Sims said police found several bottles of Smirnoff Ice - an alcoholic beverage - in Zizelman's vehicle following the collision, which occurred shortly before 11 a.m.

In order for felony charges to be considered, the responsible driver has to be driving under the influence, reckless driving or passing a school bus, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli said.
