DULUTH - A young black woman was shot Friday night near Gwinnett Place Mall, Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli said.

Police found the woman, who is in her 20s, at about 9 p.m. lying on the ground behind a strip mall on the 3400 block of Satellite Boulevard, Schiralli said.

The woman, who had not been identified, was taken to a hospital, Schiralli said. He said she was semi-conscious, semi-alert and breathing, but her condition was unknown. He declined to discuss the nature of her injuries.

Investigators were at the scene canvassing the area for witnesses, Schiralli said. Anyone with information is asked to call Gwinnett County police at 770-513-5300.
