Sen. Obama to visit Ga. for town hall meeting
ATLANTA - Sen. Barack Obama's campaign said he will visit Georgia on Tuesday for a town hall meeting to discuss the effects of the economy on families. The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee will attend a town hall meeting at McEachern High School in Powder Springs. The event is open to the public, but tickets must be picked up in advance. Atlanta policeman shoots and kills security guard MARIETTA - Cobb County Police detectives said an Atlanta police officer shot and killed an unarmed security guard at an apartment complex, and the officer faces charges of murder and aggravated assault. Officers identified the victim as 37-year-old Xavier Mallet of Marietta. Officers said for some unknown reason, Mallet awoke a family by banging on their door early Saturday and when a female resident answered, forced his way into the apartment. The woman's husband, 36-year-old Atlanta policeman John Kevin Freeman confronted Mallet, then both followed Freeman's wife out the door. Police said Freeman returned to the apartment, got his firearm, then shot and killed Mallet as he was leaving the area. Wrong-way driver kills 3 on I-20 DOUGLASVILLE - Three people have been killed and another injured in a crash involving a wrong-way driver on Interstate 20 west of Atlanta. The Georgia State Patrol says a car traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I-20 near Douglasville ran head-on into another vehicle with three occupants shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday. The patrol says those killed were a 22-year-old woman from Douglasville, a 26-year-old woman from Atlanta and a 41-year-old man from Mableton. Dispatcher David Mills says a passenger who survived the crash was taken to Atlanta Medical Center.More like this story
