Mr. John Norman Murphy Sr. passed away Friday, June 27, 2008, at the family residence in Enterprise, AL., from complications of lung cancer at the age of 69. By Mr. Murphy's request, there will be no services at this time. John Norman was a native of Lawrenceville, Ga., having lived in Enterprise for a number of years. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service, in which he served in the Vietnam War. When he returned to Lawrenceville in the 1980s, John Norman served as a Gwinnett County sheriff, and he was a manager at the Speedway on Lawrenceville Highway, until he relocated to Dalton, GA. Survivors include his wife, Joan Murphy; his children John Norman Murphy Jr. (Lisa), Karen Murphy, Stephanie Ann Murphy and Traci Michelle Murphy, of California; sister Lynda Allen (Jack), of Kentucky; step-daughter Alisa Orr (David) of Georgia; step-sons Thomas Black (Heidi) of Enterprise, AL., and Richard Black (Gayle) of Georgia; 17 precious grandchildren; 3 very special aunts, Sara Thomas, Jonnie Wallace, and Jo Beth Loundesbury (Will); and one special uncle, Grier Wallace. John Norman has joined his father, Lloyd "Woodrow" Murphy and his mother, Elizabeth in eternal peace. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
