Prep Roundup: Brookwood boys top Meadowcreek 79-78 for OT victory

SNELLVILLE - Lavon Hooks scored 26 points and Nate Hamilton added 24 more as Brookwood outlasted Meadowcreek 79-78 in overtime for a Region 8-AAAAA boys basketball win.

Taylor Mann added eight points off the bench for Brookwood (7-10, 2-8), including 4 of 4 from the free-throw line in overtime. Tyler McDaniels, who hit two 3-pointers in the last minute to force overtime, scored 18 to lead Meadowcreek (13-7, 7-3), while Charles Johnson added 15 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

South Gwinnett 71, Shiloh 54

SNELLVILLE - Adonis Harrison scored 18 points on Tuesday in guiding South Gwinnett to a 71-54 win over Shiloh in Region 8-AAAAA.

Kevin Jenkins added 13 points for South (12-6, 5-4) while Mario Vasser finished with 11 points. Shiloh was led by 17 points from Andre Crittendon and 10 from Matt McCurdy.

Central Gwinnett 66, Grayson 53

LAWRENCEVILLE - DeVonta' White led all scorers with 18 points on Tuesday night as Central Gwinnett topped Grayson 66-53 in a Region 8-AAAAA game.

Prinz Barimah added 14 points for Central (10-10, 5-5) while Dzman Colquitt chipped in with 11 points.

Norcross 92, North Forsyth 39

CUMMING - Denzail Jones tallied 22 points on Tuesday as Norcross powered its way over North Forsyth 92-39 in a Region 7-AAAAA contest.

Al-Farouq Aminu added a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards as Norcross upped its record to 19-1 overall and 15-0 in the region.

Franklin Co. 93, Apalachee 85

CARNESVILLE - UGA commit Demario Mayfield poured in 33 points Tuesday night in leading Franklin County (18-4, 9-0) to a 93-85 win over Apalachee in Region 8-AAA.

Apalachee (8-13, 4-6) was led by 27 points and nine rebounds from Chaun Gresham while Erian Ken-Harding scored 23. Diamond Gerring also finished with 12 points for the Wildcats while DeVaughn scored 10 points.

Wesleyan 78, Cross Keys 52

NORCROSS - Wesleyan remained perfect in Region 6-AA at 12-0 with a 78-52 win over Cross Keys on Tuesday.

Howard Thompkins scored 27 to lead the Wolves (17-3 overall) while Michael Cornelius scored 16 and Tanner Smith finished with 14 points.

GAC 71, Decatur 58

NORCROSS - Decatur made a late run at Greater Atlanta Christian and pulled to as close as four points in the closing minutes but came up short as the Spartans topped the Bulldogs 71-58 in Region 6-AA action.

Trent Wiedeman had 21 points and nine rebounds for GAC (19-2, 12-0) while Brett Johnson scored 21 points. Taylor Metzger helped with 10 points while Jake Mitchell finished with eight assists and four points.

Avondale 78, Buford 65

DECATUR - Buford got in an early 31-12 hole and couldn't dig its way out as the Wolves fell 78-65 to Avondale in a Region 6-AA game.

Jeremy Moore scored 19 to lead Buford (6-14) while Jakar Bridges and Zac Lynn each finished with 13 points.

St. Francis 79, Providence 70

LILBURN - Devonte Davis scored 22 points on Tuesday in lifting St. Francis 79-70 over Providence in a Region 5-A, Div. B game.

Jesse Meier led Providence (7-14, 4-5) with 21 points while Carter Rice scored 17 and Westley Hinton finished with 15 points.

Hebron 53, Prince Ave. 46

DACULA - Hebron improved to 4-12 on Tuesday by beating Prince Avenue 53-46.

James Floyd led the Lions with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Josh Manga played well with 11 points and six rebounds while Josh Baldwin chipped in with 10 points and five assists.

Heritage Academy 59, Horizon 58

CUMMING - Andrew Porter led all players with 33 points as Heritage Academy nipped Horizon 59-58.

Nathan Owens helped seal the win for Heritage (16-8) by hitting 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Brookwood 58, Meadowcreek 46

SNELLVILLE - Courtney McLane led all scorers with 25 points in guiding Brookwood to a 58-46 win over Meadowcreek on Tuesday in Region 8-AAAAA.

Jamey Chapman added 12 points for Brookwood (7-13, 6-4) while Meadowcreek was led by 24 points and five steals from Genea Williams. Brooke Wigfall added 11 points for the Mustangs (5-17, 2-8) while Massy Soumahoro finished with 10 rebounds, six points and three blocks.

South Gwinnett 52, Shiloh 34

SNELLVILLE - South Gwinnett improved to 8-9 overall and 7-2 in Region 8-AAAAA on Tuesday with a 52-34 win over Shiloh.

Lindsay Nagy scored 14 to lead South while Liza Rackett added 10 points. Nikki Sutton led Shiloh with 12 points.

Collins Hill 51, South Forsyth 48

SUWANEE - The Eagles (13-8, 9-5) connected on 8 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off the visiting War Eagles.

Marissa Rimbert posted team highs of 13 points and seven rebounds, while Lauren Pace and Jazmin Walker each added 10 points and Nikki Urbizo chipped in nine. Lara Gaspar led South Forsyth with 14 points.

Central Gwinnett 52, Grayson 32

LAWRENCEVILLE - Dria David and Jasmine Scott each scored 10 points for Central Gwinnett on Tuesday night as the Black Knights knocked off Grayson 52-32 in Region 8-AAAAA.

Central improved to 12-7 overall and 7-3 in the region. Grayson was led by 10 points from Emily Collins.

Norcross 62, North Forsyth 58

CUMMING - Bri Meeks finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds on Tuesday in helping Norcross hold off a spirited North Forsyth squad 62-58 for a Region 7-AAAAA win.

Tiffany Clarke led the Blue Devils (11-10, 8-7) with 16 points and five rebounds, while Nicole Jones finished with 15 points and three steals.

Buford 50, Avondale 28

DECATUR - Blanche Alverson scored 16 points on Tuesday night in leading Buford to a 50-28 win over Avondale in Region 6-AA.

Alysha Rudnik and Michelle Godwin each added 11 points as Buford improved to 17-4 overall and 10-3 in the region.

Wesleyan 72, Cross Keys 16

NORCROSS - Anne Marie Armstrong scored 18 points on Tuesday as Wesleyan rolled to a 72-16 win over Cross Keys in Region 6-AA.

Erin Hall added 11 points for Wesleyan (19-2, 12-0) while Grace Leah Baughn finished with 10 points.

GAC 77, Decatur 57

NORCROSS - Chaney Means had 23 points, 12 rebounds, seven steals and four blocks on Tuesday night in propelling Greater Atlanta Christian past Decatur 77-57 in a Region 6-AA game.

Anjelica Wilcox added 15 points and five assists for GAC (18-2, 12-0) while Clarke Boards and Briana Jordan each chipped in with 10 points. Stephanie Pendleton also helped with nine rebounds and seven points.

Providence 60, St. Francis 33

LILBURN - Maggie Brown scored 21 points and Julie Jordan scored 12 more as Providence beat St. Francis 60-33 on Tuesday in a Region 5-A, Div. B game.

Caroline Adams added 11 rebounds, eight points and three blocks for Providence (14-7, 8-1) while Amelia Allen had seven assists.

WRESTLING

Grayson tops both Shiloh and Loganville

LOGANVILLE - Grayson picked up two wins on Tuesday by beating Shiloh 54-16 and Loganville 58-10.

Winning two matches for Grayson were Brad Hobby (103 pounds), Nick Isburgh (119), Jon Isburgh (125), Ben Hulsey (130), Zach George (135), Roman Mangini (140), Joseph Champaign (215) and Michael Dixon (275). Adding single wins for the Rams were Tucker Kreis (112), Mike Yurk (189), Jack Dunster (145) and Drew King (171).

For Shiloh, Daniel Helena (145), Lucas Austin (152), Devarius Thomas (160) and Billy Merfert (171) each won in the Generals' match against Grayson.
