Prep Roundup: Mill Creek gets first tournament win

DULUTH - Six wrestlers finished Saturday 5-0 as Mill Creek won its first ever varsity wrestling tournament at Duluth's Wildcat Rumble.

Josh Hamilton (125 pounds), Billy Anderton (140), Taylor Lacy (145), Nick Voss (152), Ryan Gasaway (160) and Tommy Caputo (171) all posted undefeated days for the Hawks.

As a team, Mill Creek was also unbeaten with wins over Duluth (53-18), Central Gwinnett (42-32), Oconee (42-34), West Forsyth (40-26) and Berkmar (52-27).

Despite losing to Mill Creek, Berkmar finished its day 2-3 at the Rumble losing to Oconee County (42-35) and West Forsyth (53-27) but beating Central Gwinnett (39-23) and Duluth (54-21).

Chris Settles (112), Bryan Dao (119) and Robert Smith (215) went undefeated for the Patriots. Smith had five pins on the day.

WRESTLING

Dacula claims Blessed Trinity Titan Cup

ROSWELL - Dacula needed a pin from Geoff Hoggard (285 pounds) to win the Blessed Trinity Titan Cup over Lovett 204.5-204 in the 16-team tournament.

Hoggard finished the two-day tournament 5-2 and in fifth place, but was one of 12 Falcon wrestlers to medal.

Brandon Bulloc (103), Noah Hunt (119) and J.C. Hall (145) all claimed tournament titles, Frankie Miller (112) and Westin Sand (189) placed second, Bryson Turner (215) finished fourth, Dell Miller (125), Vitaliy Yarmuratiy (135) and Zeke Hunt (152) finished fifth and Christian Restrepo (171) finished sixth.

Peachtree Ridge finishes third

McDONOUGH - Peachtree Ridge placed third in the Last Man Standing tournament at Eagles Landing on Saturday.

The Lions had five people place and two tournament champions. Andrew Sartain and Matt Chapman finished first, Alan Gigolaev and Sam Kuntz placed third and Geoffrey Stratton was fourth in the tournament.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Parkview 55, Brookwood 30

SNELLVILLE - Lauren Coleman led all scorers with 16 as Parkview picked up an 8-AAAAA win over rival Brookwood 55-30 on Saturday.

Sczeny Hartry followed Coleman with 11 points for the Panthers (17-3, 8-1 region). Katie Mallow led the Broncos (6-13, 5-4 region) with nine.

McIntosh 27, South Gwinnett 25

SNELLVILLE - Damierrea Martin led South with nine points as the Comets fell to McIntosh 27-25 on Saturday.

Shelbi Sims and Erin Justice each had nine for McIntosh. South falls to 7-9.

Dunwoody 63, Meadowcreek 48

NORCROSS - Meadowcreek (4-16) fell to Dunwoody 63-48 on Saturday.

Brooke Wigfall led the Mustangs with 23 points, five rebounds, four steals and four assists and Genea Williams contributed 16 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Mill Creek 57, Norcross 46

HOSCHTON - Porsha Porter led Mill Creek with 16 points as the Hawks defeated Norcross 57-46 on Saturday.

Olivia Towers-Solis contributed 14 points and Moneshia Simmons added 13 for Mill Creek (19-1). Tiffany Clarke scored 15 points for Norcross.

Buford 37, Gainesville 31

GAINESVILLE - Blanche Alverson led all scorers with 23 as Buford beat Gainesville 37-31 on Saturday.

No Gainesville player scored in double figures in the loss to the Wolves (16-4, 9-3).

East Jackson 54, Providence 33

COMMERCE - Providence fell to East Jackson 54-33 on Saturday.

Maggie Brown scored 18 points and Summar Corley contributed 10 points and six rebounds for Providence.

Alleluia 55, Covenant 35

LOGANVILLE - Maggie Davis led with 18 points but it wasn't enough as Covenant Christian fell to Alleluia Christian 55-35 on Saturday.

Spencer Paige had 11 rebounds for Covenant.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Parkview 74, Brookwood 65

SNELLVILLE - Andrew Roesch totaled 18 points for Parkview as the Panthers beat Brookwood 74-65 on Saturday.

Ryan Smith added 11 points and 12 rebounds for Parkview (16-4) and Lavon Hooks scored 24 points for the Broncos (6-12).

South 60, McIntosh 51

SNELLVILLE - Kevon Jenkins led South with 17 points as the Comets beat McIntosh 60-51 on Saturday night.

A.D. Harrison scored 12 points and Mario Vasser added 11 points for South Gwinnett (11-6).

Norcross 73, Mill Creek 40

HOSCHTON - Al-Farouq Aminu led all scorers with 30 points as Norcross (18-1) defeated Mill Creek 73-40 on Saturday.

A.J. Hawkins added 10 for Norcross and Zach Landis scored 11 points for Mill Creek.

Dunwoody 91, Meadowcreek 66

NORCROSS - Meadowcreek (13-6) lost against Dunwoody 91-66 on Saturday night.

Teondre Williams led the Mustangs with 21 points, seven rebounds and three blocks and Charles Johnson contributed 11 points and four assists.

Apalachee 69, Jackson County 35

JEFFERSON - Chaun Gresham led Apalachee with 16 points as the Wildcats topped Jackson County 69-35 on Saturday.

Dennis Whitley added 11 points and Diamond Gerring contributed 10 points and five assists for Apalachee (8-12).

Social Circle 61, Hebron 49

SOCIAL CIRCLE - Hebron (3-12) fell to Social Circle 61-41 on Saturday.

James Floyd led with 14 points, while Jeremy Bell and Josh Manga each scored 10 points for Hebron.

East Jackson 66, Providence 51

COMMERCE - Providence (7-13) lost to East Jackson 66-51 on Saturday.

Westley Hinton led Providence with 28 points.

Covenant 62, Alleluia 61

LOGANVILLE - Covenant Christian beat Alleluia Christian 62-61 on Saturday.

Quinn Jeffords scored 19 points and Doug Davis had 18 points and 13 rebounds for Covenant.

Cedar Shoals 67, Loganville 55

ATHENS - Tyler Gunnett led with 17 points but it wasn't enough as Loganville (15-4) fell to Cedar Shoals 67-55 on Saturday.
