The South Gwinnett High School Parent-Teacher-Student association awarded more than $3,500 this year in the Miss South Scholarship Pageant.
In the Senior Division, Miss South 2008 Katie Lane won a $1,000 scholarship. The first runner-up, Amy Kierath, won a $700 scholarship, second runner-up Mary Ashley Redmond won a $600 scholarship and third runner-up Shelby Lohr won a $500 scholarship. Kaitlyn Gaddis was given the Sara Bramlett Award and a $350 scholarship. Other awards presented in that division were as follows: Ebone Cooper, Miss Photogenic; Mistie Lloyd, Miss Congeniality; Katie Lane, People's Choice Award; and Mary Ashley Redmond, Sponsorship Award. In the Junior Division, Miss Junior 2008 Brooke Buker won a $200 savings bond. Her court included first runner-up Michelle McAloon, second runner-up Shelby Hummel and third runner-up Desi-Ray Morris. Other awards presented in that division were as follows: Brooke Buker, Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality; Bryana Barber, People's Choice Award; and Shelby Hummel, Sponsorship Award. In the Sophomore Division, Miss Sophomore Macey Shonyo won a $200 savings bond. Her court included first runner-up Noelle Hathaway, second runner-up Caitlin Zumbro and third runner-up Amber Napier. Other awards presented in that division were as follows: Macey Shonyo, Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality; Chinelo Udokoro, People's Choice Award; and Amber Napier, Sponsorship Award. The pageant's corporate sponsors were E.R. Snell Contractors Inc., Brysan Utility Contractors Inc. and The Brand Banking Company. Miss Dacula registration ending soon The registration deadline for the Miss Dacula Pageants is Thursday. The pageants are open to girls who are 3 years old to those in 12th grade. Dawn Siska, the pageant director, said a Miss Dacula representative is "someone who is confident, personable, friendly, outgoing and most importantly a positive role model for other young ladies to look up to." Pageant winners will have the opportunity to represent Dacula as honorary ambassadors and to promote the city during many community events. There is a $75 application fee, which can be paid online at www.missdacula. org through PayPal. Applications can also be downloaded from the Web site. The pageants are scheduled as follows: · Feb. 23 - Youth Pageants · Feb. 29 and March 1 - Middle School Pageants · March 7 and 8 - High School Pageants For more information, call Siska at 770-338-0298. Golf tournament to benefit Peachtree Ridge schools The Fifth Annual Peachtree Ridge Lions Golf Classic will be held at TPC at Sugarloaf on March 31. There is an early bird special for teams registered before Feb. 15. Proceeds raised from the tournament will benefit all schools in the Peachtree Ridge cluster.
