NORCROSS - Optimus Solutions, a private Norcross-based company that resells software, was acquired Jan. 3 by Toronto-based SoftChoice Corporation (TSX-SO).
Steve Johnson, Optimus president, said the $38 million offer was too good to refuse.
"They knocked on our door," Johnson said. "It was a good match and the end result was more products to our customer base and more opportunities for our employees."
In addition to the purchase price, Optimus will earn an additional $9 million if the company meets specified goals in revenue and gross profit in 2008. The company will strive for 35 percent growth in 2008, Johnson said.
None of Optimus' roughly 140 employees will be laid off, said Michael Cohn, director of marketing. Instead, the acquisition by SoftChoice increases employee benefits and gives them more chances to advance.
The acquisition allows Optimus to increase its seven offices to 45 nationwide, Cohn said.
Optimus finished 2007 at $156 million in revenue, Johnson said, and serves about 1,000 customers nationwide. SoftChoice's 900 employees serve about 2,000 customers in the U.S. and Canada.
