Valerie Wages recertifies in funeral services

LAWRENCEVILLE - Valerie Wages, of Tom M. Wages Funeral Service in Lawrenceville and Snellville, recently qualified for recertification as a certified funeral service practitioner.

To initially earn the title, Wages had to complete a 180-hour program of education, activities and events, as well as accumulating 20 hours each year to recertify.

Wages is a lifetime member of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice in Westerville, Ohio, serves as a member of the Board of Trustees and as an ambassador for the Academy.

UGA Business Center to hold two classes

LAWRENCEVILLE - The University of Georgia Small Business Development Center will hold two classes in February at Georgia Gwinnett College.

QuickBooks 2007 Payroll will be taught from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 7. Students will learn how to use QuickBooks payroll module, set up payroll items, employee payroll information, process payroll checks, setting up 1099 employees and how to pay and adjust tax liabilities. Cost: $50.

Starting A Business will be taught from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 19. Topics include traits of successful entrepreneurs, marketing research, legal structures for business, estimating start-up costs and cash flow projection, financing alternatives, failure factors and business planning. Cost: $69.
