Prep roundup: Central girls beat South for first time in 5 years

SNELLVILLE - Jasmine Scott of Central Gwinnett led all scorers with 15 points on Friday in guiding the Black Knights to a 49-43 win over South Gwinnett in Region 8-AAAAA, Central's first win over South since January 2003.

Lauren Brown added 14 points for Central (9-7, 4-3) while Dria David chipped in with 10 points, including six straight free throws in the final 90 seconds.

South (5-8, 4-2) was led by Hanna Ennis with nine points and Liza Rackett with eight points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mill Creek 61, North Forsyth 35

HOSCHTON - Mill Creek jumped to an early lead and never looked back as the top-ranked Hawks cruised to a 61-35 win over North Forsyth on Friday.

Porsha Porter scored 11 to lead Mill Creek (17-1 overall, 11-0 Region 7-AAAAA) while Monique Weathers added 11 points. Also playing well for Mill Creek were Olivia Towers-Solis with 10 points and Tia Williams with seven points, seven steals and four assists.

Norcross 56, Forsyth Central 34

CUMMING - Tiffany Clarke had 15 points and 11 rebounds to help give Norcross a 56-34 win over Forsyth Central on Friday in Region 7-AAAAA.

Bri Meeks added 10 points, eight rebounds and four steals for Norcross (9-8, 6-5) while Alex DeMercy came off the bench to grab six rebounds.

Peachtree Ridge 41, Duluth 38

SUWANEE - Emily Wortman had 11 points and six rebounds while Ariel Overstreet added 11 points and four boards on Friday to help Peachtree Ridge beat rival Duluth 41-38 in Region

7-AAAAA.

D'Atra Sawyer added nine points and two assists for the Lions (9-9, 4-6) while Mykala Walker led Duluth with 14 points.

Parkview 72, Shiloh 27

SNELLVILLE - All 14 players on Parkview's roster scored Friday night as the Panthers cruised past Shiloh 72-27 in Region 8-AAAAA.

Lauren Coleman led the sixth-ranked Panthers (15-2, 6-0) with 20 points. Engeoli Johnson came off the bench to score 11 while Sczeny Hartry chipped in eight points and six assists.

Brookwood 52, Grayson 50 OT

LOGANVILLE - Grayson led by six points with two minutes to play but couldn't hold on as Brookwood rallied to defeat the Rams 52-50 in overtime.

Courtney McLane scored 22 to lead Brookwood, including a pair of free throws with seven seconds left to seal the win Katie Mallow finished with 10 points. Taren White had 19 points to lead Grayson (5-12 overall, 1-5 Region 8-AAAAA) while Emily Collins hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points.

Berkmar 75, Meadowcreek 49

NORCROSS - Tyra Smith scored 21 points as eighth-ranked Berkmar topped Meadowcreek 75-49 Friday night in Region 8-AAAAA action.

Brittany McDonald just missed a triple-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks for Berkmar (15-2, 5-1) while Mariah Richardson added 14 points. Gabby Harvey and Ka'Vonne Towns also chipped in with 12 points each for the Patriots.

Brooke Wigfall led Meadowcreek (3-15, 0-4) with 22 points and eight rebounds while Genea Williams scored 20 points and Massy Soumahoro grabbed eight rebounds.

GAC 74, Cross Keys 17

NORCROSS - All 12 players scored for Greater Atlanta Christian on Friday night as the second-ranked Spartans throttled Cross Keys 74-17 in Region 6-AA.

Mollie Mitchell led GAC (16-2, 9-0) with 12 points while Chaney Means scored nine and Anjelica Wilcox and Briana Jordan each added seven points.

Loganville 68, Habersham Central 57

MOUNT AIRY - Tichina Chatman led all players with 20 points on Friday in leading Loganville to a 68-57 win over Habersham Central.

Loganville, which improved to 14-3, also received 14 points from Zia Banks.

Hebron 41, Mt. Pisgah 30

DACULA - Hebron improved to 7-6 on Friday night with a 41-30 win over Mt. Pisgah.

Britt Pecht scored 21 to lead Hebron while Rachel Duval added 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Fellowship Christian 31, Providence Christian 29

LILBURN - Providence suffered its first Region 5-A, Div. B loss on Friday as Fellowship scored at the buzzer to sink the Stars 31-29.

Amelia Allen scored nine points to lead Providence (12-5, 6-1) while Julie Jordan finished with six points.

Macon Area 45, GGC 36

NORCROSS - Macon Area topped Greater Gwinnett Christian 45-36 on Friday night.

GGC (8-13) was led by 15 points from Diamond Smith. Ashley White added eight rebounds and seven points while Taylor Augst finished with seven points for GGC.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Norcross 89, Forsyth Central 46

CUMMING - No. 1 Norcross continued to roll on Friday night as the Blue Devils upended Forsyth Central 89-46 in Region 7-AAAAA play.

Denzail Jones and Zach Lamb each scored 16 as Norcross improved to 15-1 overall and 11-0 in the region.

Mill Creek 43, North Forsyth 33

HOSCHTON - Mill Creek upped its Region 7-AAAAA record to 4-7 on Friday by beating North Forsyth 43-33.

Zach Baker led Mill Creek with 10 points.

Peachtree Ridge 76, Duluth 55

SUWANEE - Bryen Pyles led a group of four players in double-figures with 23 points as Peachtree Ridge beat Duluth 76-55 on Friday in a Region 7-AAAAA game.

Also scoring for the Lions (11-7, 7-3) were Khalid Mutakabbir with 18 and Cory Blackwell and Adrian Hubbard with 12. Duluth was led by a game-high 24 points from Armand Tatum.

South 66, Central 56

SNELLVILLE - South Gwinnett overcame a 21-point effort by Central Gwinnett's Prinz Barimah to top the Black Knights 66-56 in a Region 8-AAAAA game.

Adonis Harrison scored 13 to lead South while Kevon Jenkins scored 10. Central (8-9, 3-4) also received 13 points from Dezman Colquitt.

Parkview 69, Shiloh 57

SNELLVILLE - Yaw Gyawu poured in 29 points and Andrew Roesch added 18 more as Parkview beat Region 8-AAAAA foe Shiloh 69-57 on Friday.

Parkview improved to 13-4 overall and 5-1 in the region while Shiloh dropped to 3-4 in the region.

Grayson 81, Brookwood 72

LOGANVILLE - Grayson picked up its first Region 8-AAAAA win on Friday by outlasting Brookwood 81-72.

Dee Smith scored 27 to lead Grayson (1-5 region) while Javarris Smith scored 23 and Andrew Osehmen added 13 points.

Dacula 70, Madison County 46

DANIELSVILLE - Dacula, ranked No. 5 in Class AAAA, improved to 18-1 overall and 9-0 in Region 8-AAAA on Friday with a 70-46 win over Madison County.

Dacula was led by 19 points from Justin Rush, 15 from Trent Kammerer and 12 from Brian Cole.

GAC 88, Cross Keys 52

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian received points from 11 different players on Friday as the fourth-ranked Spartans beat Cross Keys 88-52 in Region 6-AA.

Brett Johnson led GAC (16-2, 9-0) with 20 points. Jake Mitchell also scored 12 while Ryan Ransom and Chase Hudson each scored 10 for GAC.

Hebron 48, Mt. Pisgah 47

DACULA - Hebron's Jeremy Bell hit a 3-pointer with six seconds to play on Friday to help lift the Lions over Mt. Pisgah 48-47.

Bell finished with nine points while James Floyd led Hebron (3-10) with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Providence Christian 68, Fellowship Christian 58

LILBURN - Four Providence players hit for double-figures in points, led by 19 from Westley Hinton, as the Stars held off Fellowship Christian 68-58 on Friday.

Carter Rice added 15 points for Providence (6-11, 3-4) while Peter Hage finished with 14 points and Jesse Meier with 11.

Apalachee 65, Oconee County 61

WATKINSVILLE - Apalachee trailed Oconee County by six points with three minutes to play but forced several turnovers to go on a 16-5 run to top the Warriors 65-61 on Friday.

Diamond Gerring scored 16 to lead Apalachee (6-12, 3-5) while Shane Sargent added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Chaun Gresham also overcame early foul trouble to score all 10 of his points in the second half.

GGC 53, Macon Area 48

NORCROSS - Jared Martz had 14 points to go along with 19 rebounds on Friday as Greater Gwinnett Christian downed Macon Area 53-48.

Andrew John added 13 points for GGC (15-7) while Emmanuel Harris led the team in rebounds with seven.

WRESTLING

Collins Hill reaches Class AAAAA dual finals

MACON - Collins Hill knocked off three opponents on Friday to advance to the finals of the Class AAAAA state wrestling duals tournament at the Macon Centreplex. The Eagles will wrestle the Harrison/Centennial winner tonight at 7:45 p.m. for the title.

Collins Hill started its day with a 61-6 win over Murray and then beat Union Grove 37-27 in a highly anticipated match. The Eagles closed out their day with a 45-12 win over Pope, who defeated Grayson 44-18 in an earlier match.

T.J. Mitchell recorded three wins with one pin while Will Collins notched three wins for Collins Hill. Also going 3-0 for the Eagles were Cody Parker, Taylor Knapp, Nick Smith and C.J. Collins. Allen Willard also wrestled well with two wins while Caleb Sawchuk and David Coffey each had a pin.
