Free prostate screening offered in Gwinnett

BUFORD - This month, the National Prostate Cancer Coalition is teaming with News Talk 750 WSB AM and Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia to provide free prostate cancer screenings to men across the region.

The 10-minute tests will take place at various metro Atlanta locations, including an 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. screening Thursday at Kroger, 2655 Freedom Parkway in Cumming, an 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. screening Friday at the Kroger located at 1160 Moreland Ave., Atlanta and a 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. screening time Saturday at a site in the Mall of Georgia parking lot near P.F. Chang's, 3333 Buford Drive, Buford.

Organizations receive more than $100K

ATLANTA - Healthcare Georgia Foundation concluded its sixth year of grant-making in December by awarding more than $2.3 million to nearly 30 organizations and programs, including two local organizations.

The grant awards reflect the organization's greatest quarterly allocation of charitable dollars to date, as well as it's largest annual distribution of grant awards.

Good Samaritan Health Center of Gwinnett received a $50,000 grant to increase organizational capacity and the American Cancer Society, Inc. South Atlantic Division was granted $150,000 to implement a Patient Resource Navigator program in Hall County.

Atlanta hospital hosts career open house

ATLANTA - Piedmont Hospital is holding a Career Open House for all nurses and cardiac catheterization lab technologists this weekend.

The open house will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Piedmont Hospital Cafeteria located on the mezzanine level of the hospital's 77 Building at 1968 Peachtree Road, Atlanta.

The event includes hospital tours, raffle and door prizes, giveaways and refreshments.

Managers and human resources staff will be on hand to share career opportunities.

Bloodmobile to be in Buford

BUFORD - LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is hosting a blood drive in Buford next week.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday the bloodmobile will be in the parking lot of the Bodyplex Fitness Adventure, 4125 Buford Drive.

All donors will receive a recognition item and free cholesterol screening.

Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more and show photo ID at the time of donation.
